Nokia faked Lumia smartphone ad stirs controversy

A keen-eyed viewer of the latest advertisement for Nokia smartphone Lumia's optical image stabilization (OIS) technology has captured what others didn't see.

In the faked Lumia-shot video, a window reflection revealed  a cameraman holding an SLR camera when it should have appeared as being video recorded using the Windows Phone 8 handset. Nokia did not disclose it wasn't shot using Lumia.

To see the cameraman, watch between 0:25 and 0:28.

In the Nokia Lumia advertisement, a man appears to be filming his girlfriend using the new Lumia while bicycling. All the time, it seems that the video was captured using Nokia's flagship smartphone. After a while, two short-duration footages can be seen comparing absence and presence of Nokia's OIS technology, which is thought to be significantly reducing image blur.

The real reason the Lumia advert was then showed was to reveal the extent of image quality the OIS technology can offer.

Stocks fell more than 6 percent after the announcement. The Finnish company has apologized after misleading the viewers.
