Four (4) of the best universities in the Philippines taking lead in the realms of education and leadership have slumped down to a record low in 4 out of 5 key areas namely, Life Sciences, Engineering & IT, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences.
University of the Philippines (UP) took the top spot now ranking 332nd from 314th in 2010, despite its centenary infrastructural reformation and upgrade of its facilities. Next in line is Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) which stumbled 53 spots to 360th during its 150th celebration.
Meanwhile, De La Salle University (DLSU) which landed on the 451-500 list was displaced into the 551-600 ranks. Almost missing the list is University of Sto. Tomas (UST), which got included in the 601+ list.
The evaluation of these universities by QS, a leading global career and education network, is said to be faulty and inconclusive since university data records used by the company are deemed to be archaic. It is believed that schools/universities who would like to join the evaluation/survey (and send in updates concerning the quality of education and school reputation) will have to pay a huge amount for the site promotion; thus, participation of the aforementioned schools in the survey must have been limited and unwillful. With out-dated information on hand, a drag in the international rankings is not impossible.
