A lot of Filipinos, from all levels of the Philippine society, are becoming more and more text savvy by using internet hot spots (free wifi areas in the offices, certain government agencies and institutions, and schools and malls) to log in on Facebook and chat with friends (that is, if they are online). Even entrepreneurs and businessmen would love to save that load for more important matters, rather than replying short responses on day-to-day questions.
The other alternative using these hot spots is to visit websites that offer free text (SMS) messaging services. So, in which websites can one send text messages for free?
Here is a list I compiled of the top sites that provide free text (SMS) messaging services in the Philippines. Just so everyone is on the same page, Alexa (which will be mentioned below) is a site that analyzes traffic (visits) to these websites and ranks them accordingly.

1. Chikka - this one is probably the oldest free text messaging service provider in the Philippines. It's also one of the most visited sites in the country, with an Alexa rank of 365th in PH.
2. AFreeSMS - I only got to know about this today, while I was surfing the web. It actually offers quite an easy way to send messages (and again, for free). It has an Alexa rank in the Philippines of 502nd.
3. MagTxt.biz - I am very familiar with this because I use this every time I have no load (haha). It's really reliable and I can repeatedly reply to the same number if needed. MagTxt ranks at 611 in the country.
There are actually a lot of websites that offer free text messaging service, but these three are the ones I recommend. As you can see, their PH rankings in Alexa prove that Pinoys really make use (emphasis on take advantage) of these service providers in order not to shell out so much for load, all income from which are just divided between Globe and Smart.
Sending a text to anyone for free in the Philippines has never been this easy. It's free and convenient to use. All one needs to do is just connect to a wifi hot spot and boom, you're free to text! Others prefer to use Viber or whatever app is available in the market.
