DONALD TRUMP ISSUE | Companies withdraw support, countries back out of Miss Universe pageant

Looks like real estate tycoon and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has a lot to lose after his statement on Mexican immigrants beings sent to to US who "bring drugs and crime, and some are rapists."

Because of this statement, companies, organizations, and countries have withdrawn their support for the Miss Universe beauty pageant. The list is as follows:

On June 25, Univision said it won’t air the Miss USA pageant and will cut all business ties with Trump who owns the Miss Universe Organization.

On June 29, media giants NBC (US) and Televisa (Mexico) said it's ending its relationship with Trump and won't air any of his pageants - Miss USA and Miss Universe.

On June 30, TV company OraTV said it’s ending a project it was developing with Trump.

On July 1, clothing line Macy’s said it will stop carrying an exclusive line of Trump menswear.

Serta said it is winding down a licensing agreement for its Trump Home mattress collection and won’t renew the deal upon expiry on 2015.

US rapper Flo Rida, set to perform at the July 12 Miss USA pageant, dropped out. This meant all of the announced performers (plus hosts and some judges) have already quit.

On July 2, New York City officials said they are reviewing the city’s contracts with Trump in light of his comments. Cable and satellit TV networj Reelz said it will air the Miss USA pageant, however, Trump won’t make any money from it.

On July 3, auto-racing sports venture NASCAR said it won’t hold its season-ending awards ceremony at the Trump National Doral Miami.

On July 4, Panama joined several other Latin American countries who dropped out of the Miss Universe pageant.


On July 6,  Walt Disney's ESPN said it won’t hold its ESPN Celebrity Golf Classic at Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles.

On July 7, clothing company PVH Corp said it’s winding down its licensing deal with Trump. The PGA of America said it is moving its Grand Slam of Golf from Trump’s Los Angeles course. 

On July 8, celebrity chef Jose Andres backed out of a plan to open a flagship restaurant in Donald Trump’s new hotel in Washington.
