October 26 declared holiday in the Philippines

MalacaƱang announced that October 26, 2012 will be a regular holiday in the Philippines in observance of Eidul Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Signed by President Benigno Aquino III, the declaration contained in Proclamation No. 488, stated “Republic Act No. 9849 provides that Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as a regular holiday.”

The festival's date was based on the declaration issued by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended that the observance of Eidul Adha be on October 26, 2012. It further recommended that the Eidul Adha prayer be conducted upon final declaration of the Saudi Government.
