#AlDub | 5 Reasons Why AlDub is the Most Popular Love Team in the Philippines Today

Before, it was only Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo as the KathNiel tandem. Then, Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano came in with their LizQuen partnership, which was then followed by James Reid and Nadine Lustre with their JaDine team-up. However, there is this one extremely popular Kapuso love team that just matches the three love teams of the Kapamilya network – AlDub.

Why is that so? Here are five possible reasons that explain why AlDub is the most popular (and most supported) love team to date.

1. Its related hashtags have dominated Twitter-verse and most of the online world.

On September 5, the first actual on-stage encounter between AlDub’s halves Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza (aka Yaya Dub) rocked the whole of Twitter-verse causing entertained netizens to score 5.807 million #ALDUBBATTLEForACause tweets!

On September 12, AlDub in its Kalyeserye raked in 6,409,500 tweets for #ALDUBTheAbduction. It was thought to be one of the highest and ceiling point for the number of tweets associated to a love team, but critics were wrong. On September 19, 12.125 million #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate tweets were generated. It was one big face slam to competing show It’s Showtime’s #ShowtimeMagPastillas which only reached approximately 500,000.

But the netizen support was not to be joked upon, on September 26, 25.652 million tweets (yes, you’re reading that right!) #ALDubEBforLOVE tweets were made, closing in on 2015’s most tweeted topic which is the Super Bowl XLIX. Terrific!

Isn’t the number of mentions on Twitter, not yet considering the fact that it broke the world record for the highest number of tweets generated in a day, one TITANIC evidence of AlDub’s popularity? And there’s just more to that as both AGB Nielsen and Kantar TV ratings firms have reported a widening ratings gap between the rival noontime shows Eat Bulaga and It’s Showtime. This just proves the viewer-enticing power of AlDub.

2. AlDub won awards just a few months after its unexpected breakout!

Well, on October 11, Wally Bayola (a.k.a. Lola Nidora), Maine Mendoza, Alden Richards, and TAPE Productions were recognized in the 1st Catholic Social Media Awards which was organized by church-based organizations Youth Pinoy and Areopagus Communications Inc. for "promoting Filipino Christian values and virtues." The awarding ceremony was commenced within the 4th Catholic Social Media Summit, a two-day event with a goal of teaching Catholics how to use social media responsibly and to use it to promote good moral principles.

Last September, AlDub also received the Most Popular Breakout Loveteam award in this year’s EdukCircle Awards.

Now the question is, has there been any love team in the past to have received such awards? It’s probably one of the reasons why AlDub fans stay hooked on to Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye episodes, aside from the fact that Yaya Dub and Alden just have it all – the chemistry and the GMRC hehe. They definitely embody what good role models to the youth should be.

3. AlDub has a lot of loud supporters all across the globe from all walks of life!

4. AlDub’s simplistic, values-oriented approach and love-blended charisma even beats ABS-CBN’s three biggest love teams combined.

When the network ratings war was brought to another level, from mainstream to alternative media (Twitter and Facebook), competitor It’s Showtime stepped up its game to counter the rising star of GMA as it’s probably that the Kapamilya Network was determined to smash head-on with the AlDub fame. On September 26, two big events took place: National Pabebe Day on one side versus It’s Showtime Kapamilya Day: The ANIMversary Kick-off. And guess what happened? Your guess is as good as ours. J

5. Alden and Maine are undeniably popular as a team and as reel (and possible real) halves!





The love team can boast of a good following as seen in their great commercials. When sponsors trust you and your appeal to the public, they’d just go after you. Recently, Alden and Maine were both featured in commercials for McDo, Talk n’ Text, Zonrox and Bear Brand.
