UP Diliman USC Elections 2013 Results: Alex Castro is new USC Chair, with running mate Jules Guiang as Vice Chair

UPDATES: Voter turnout this year is 48.4%, relatively lower than last year's 48.91% and last last year's 48.5%.

KAISA, short for Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan, is this year's winner party gathering 14 out of 34 seats in the highest governing student body in UP; this also shows when its strong tandem of standard bearers, Alex Castro and Jules Guiang, won both positions of USC Chair and Vice Chair. Four (4) of its running mates also landed on USC councilor seats. Alex Castro cornered 4,944 votes, with Mijo Solis and Carlo Brolagda, left out of the race with 2,804 and 2,213 votes, respectively. 1,284 students abstained for the position.

Castro's partner Jules Guiang almost battled head-on with Kei Garcia (of  Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP, STAND UP) in a very tight race pointing to a vote difference of 66 votes. Alex Santos of Alyansa ng mga Mag-aaral para sa Panlipunang Katwiran at Kaunlaran (ALYANSA) came in third with  3,194 votes.

The remaining councilor posts were won over as follows: 5 for STAND UP, 3 for ALYANSA. ALYANSA ranked second with 9 out of 34 USC seats, while STAND UP fell third with 8 out of 34 USC seats.

Independent candidates grabbed three (3) College Representative to the USC seats -in CMC, Econ, and Law.. The list of winners of the 2013 USC Election are found below.

The results of the UP Diliman University Student Council (USC) Elections 2013 are continuously being inputted in this post.

Which party will take up majority of the USC seats? Will there be collegiate electoral changes and home base overturns?

Last year, USC dominance was won over by the Alyansa ng mga Mag-aaral para sa Panlipunang Katwiran at Kaunlaran (ALYANSA)  which took 13 out of the 34 highly contested seats in the USC including the Chairperson's. ALYANSA's candidates Heart Dino and Genesis Rapallo, of the positions for Chairperson and USC councilors, respectively ranked first among its co-candidates.

Meanwhile, Nagkakaisang Iskolar para sa Pamantasan at Sambayanan (KAISA), which tied with Student Alliance for the Advancement of Democratic Rights in UP (STAND-UP) having 10 seats each in the student body, saw its Vice Chairperson candidate Alex Castro smash its rivals with a significant number of vote lead.

Whose party mate will lead the University Student Council for the AY 2013-2014?? Will principles win over personalities? Will there be a rise in voter turnout in an election where the campaign period was tainted with black propaganda, strategic machinery, and virtual eye openers?
