UP Diliman holds strike against 1.39B Budget Cut (UPDATE)

UPDATE:
Around 2500 people joined the strike today, held at Palma Hall. The students who participated came from various colleges and sectors in UP Diliman.

The University of the Philippines-Diliman will be holding strikes today and tomorrow, November 26, 2010, as an expression of opposition against the government's proposed 1.39B peso budget cut in UP.


By 6 PM, messages from deans of different colleges will be heard in AS (Palma Hall). It will be followed by a grand salu-salo/ dinner while a cultural program is in process. Students may opt to stay for a camp out or go home.

On November 18, it can be recalled that students of state colleges and universities (SUCs) all over Metro Manila held different activities to express their opposition against the budget cuts to education and social services.

In the University of the Philippines- Diliman, students, teachers, and university workers held a multi-sectoral summit to discuss the budget cut.

In University of the Philippines-Manila, students participated in a “short shorts day” to protest the “shortening of budget of SUCs, PGH, and health.”

On November 19, about 5000 students from Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP)walked out of their classes and declared a week-long student strike.
