Philippines postpones OFW deployment to South Korea

Due to increased tensions between the two Koreas, after the North's shelling on an island near the highly militarized region, the Philippines has postponed by a week the departure of 50 OFWs bound for South Korea.

The workers were supposed to leave on Monday, however, were not allowed for "it was more prudent to deter their departure until the tension subsides", says Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Esteban Conejos..

About 46,000 Filipinos work in South Korea mostly in factories, service industries and construction companies.

The Philippine government condemned North Korea's artillery attack on a South Korean island on Tuesday which caused death of two marines and two South Korean civilians.
