Filipino tax informer seeks P11-trillion reward

Danilo Lihaylihay, a Filipino tax informer, may become one of the world’s wealthiest men if the Supreme Court concedes to his filing of a multitrillion-peso claim against the government.

Lihaylihay is asking the high tribunal to direct the national governemnt to pay him P11.875 trillion in "partial claims" for supposedly cracking information which led to the retrieval of the Marcoses' P47.5 trillion in fraudulent wealth .

The amount he is demanding is larger than the P85.1 billion of the illiciit assets of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, his family and cronies which the Presidentictial Commission on Good Government (PCGC) had actually reclaimed as of June 30, 2009.

It is even a number of times bigger than the Aquino administration's proposed national budget for 2011 of P1.645-trillion.

This case may seem ridiculous and  contemptible, but Lihaylihay argued that RA No. 2338, or the Informer's Reward Law, clearly states that any person who helped recover the illegally acquired assets was entitled to get 25 percent of that reward from the government.
