Metro Manila Film Festival 2012 entry Sisterakas, jointly managed by Star Cinema and Viva Films, is now the Philippines' highest grossing film of all time as confirmed by MMFF Chairman Francis Tolentinto on Tuesday in an interview with ABSCBNNews.com.
Earning over 340 million Php in just two weeks, the comedy film starred Ai Ai delas Alas, Vice Ganda, and Kris Aquino, all of who are popular celebrities and certified blockbuster movie crowd-bringers. Sisterakas beat Vice Ganda-led The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin which earned P331.36 million in revenue during its four-week release in theaters.
Tolentino also hinted that the total gross earnings of the MMFF 2012 entries could reach 755 million Php which could be a new Film Fest record once achieved as compared to MMFF 2011's gross of 636.7 million Php.
The official MMFF 2012 box office figures (gross earnings) are set to be released today (Wednesday).
