TV | Is the AlDub craze losing steam? Kantar ratings show It's Showtime slowly beating Eat Bulaga! in January 2016.

Kantar Media has recently released data of its national TV ratings coverage. In the images below, national TV ratings for January 11 and 12 show that ABS-CBN's It's Showtime has edged out GMA's crown jewel program Eat Bulaga! after a surprise ratings boost from the unexpected formation of the AlDub love team featuring Alden Richards and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza in real life) has caused  a ratings drag on the Kapamilya side.

January 11 was the first time It's Showtime successfully won more viewers vs Eat Bulaga! since the creation of the popular segment "KalyeSerye."

On January 12, It's Showtime beat Eat Bulaga! by a meager 0.1%. A day before, on January 11, the former had a 0.3% gap over Eat Bulaga! in the Urban+Rural category.

It can be recalled that Eat Bulaga! obtained a record 40.1% rating, out. Since the start of the year, the ratings gap between It's Showtime and Eat Bulaga! thinned. 

Did the entry of Mariel Rodriguez, Amy Perez, and Hashtag help in bringing the gap to a narrow close? Will the classic sub-program "Tawag ng Tanghalan" of It's Showtime take it to a ratings leap?

Dolce Amore

The LizQuen love team will be starring in Dolce Amore. Liza Soberano is cast as Serena, a wealthy girl seeking an ordinary life. Enrique Gil, meanwhile, will play the role of Tenten, an ordinary hardworking boy from Manila. While looking for money to help his father, Tenten meets Serena, who at that time was asking for direction to her hotel in the Philippines.

Tubig at Langis


Tubig at Langis brings out the talent of Cristine Reyes who will play here as a single mother in search of love. Zanjoe Marudo and Isabelle Daza will also be cast here.


Born for You

Newly transferred Elmo Magalona, son of the late Francis Magalona, will be hitting Kapamilya fans alongside first-time partner Janella Salvador. Will Born for You, a story of destiny, win viewers over?

Be My Lady

Real-life lovers Daniel Matsunaga and Erich Gonzales will be working together in Be My Lady, a story between a young bachelor playboy who falls in love with a probinsyana nursing student. The show will also put to light the acting prowess of Janice de Belen and Priscilla Meirelles.

Written in Our Stars

Piolo Pascual is back! And he'll be reunited with recently wed Toni Gonzaga in the upcoming drama Written In Our Stars, which will be directed by Andoy Ranay and produced by Dreamscape.  The other stars to watch out for here are Jolina Magdangal, Sarah Lahbati, Sam Milby, and child actor Marco Masa.

The Story of Us

KimXi fans will run wild once the teleserye comeback of one of the hottest love teams airs. The Story of Us tells the story of love between Macoy (Xian Lim) and Tin (Kim Chiu). They fell in love and eventually lost it. Will they ever find a way back into love?

Produced by Star Creatives, The Story of Us will also feature Zaijan Jaranilla, Zsa-Zsa Padilla, John Arcilla, Aiko Melendez, Suzan Africa, Banky, and Bryan Santos.

Other shows

Game shows and reality TV shows will still prevail next year. These include Family Feud, Tawag ng Tanghalan, Pilipinas Got Talent (Season 5), The Voice Kids (Season 3), and Pinoy Big Brother (Season 7).

Is this just an isolated incident or an intentional move? Apparently, Eat Bulaga has been enjoying extra high ratings at the expense of It's Showtime for its phenomenal segment "KalyeSerye" featuring accidental love team #AlDub. Will more TV Plus customers show up and support this occurrence? We'll find out in the coming days.

ABS-CBN, also known as the Kapamilya Station, has unveiled some of its new shows which are set to premiere this January 2013.

These new to-look-forward shows include "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw" showcasing Kris Aquino, Anne Curtis and Robin Padilla; "Juan Dela Cruz" starring Coco Martin; and funny romance-oriented film presenting Angeline Quinto, Paulo Avelino and Sam Milby.

"It's Showtime" to be franchised abroad?

Rumor has it, ABS-CBN's noontime show "It's Showtime" will be having its 1st franchise outside the Philippines - in the United States.

According to a blog  post a recognized U.S. director/producer is reportedly in talks with ABS-CBN management for the possible airing of the noontime show in one US TV network.

It may be remembered that its rival show "Eat Bulaga!", the longest running of its kind in Philippine TV history, had its first franchise in Indonesia which consistently topped ratings charts.

Could this be possibly true? Let's wait and see in the coming months. If this comes to fruition, it will be another mark in the history of ABS-CBN.
