2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition Scores, Rankings, Results

Click Here >> 2013 UAAP Cheerdance Competition UPDATES << Click Here

To those who doubted UP's win and maligned the process at which the teams were ranked, here are the actual scores each squad got during the 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition and how everything seems to be unquestionable.

The scores and rankings during the 2012 UAAP Samsung Cheerdance Competition are as follows.

Even if overall ranking was not based on ranking frequency, averaging the scores would still mean that the UP Pep Squad got a higher average score over second placer FEU Cheering Squad. The release of the score sheets clears out all the issues that surrounded the ranking process.

One possible reason why the ranking system was implemented over the simple averaging system was to avoid score extremes (outliers) which could perhaps result from bias for a certain squad. In this system, no school will have extreme scores, with the differences leveled in by basis of ranking. The system grants every judge and every school equal weight.

Opinion: Quotable online comments, why the UP Pep Squad won

Some viewers/spectators predicted that the UP Pep Squad will win based on its performance compared to the other squads'.

But, there were others who focused on one truly visible stunt failure that shocked nearly everyone, sending the whole UP audience to an all-out cheering support while heightening the mirth obtained by others who waited for such failure to happen.

After watching the video replay of UP Pep Squad's performance in a video uploading site, I saw quotable (of varied facets, aspects, and degrees) comments which, for these users, justify more UP Pep Squad's triumph. Let this be some fun-tertaining way of easing the post-CDC tension (or not, lol).

The following comments may appear as either witty and/or funny, critical, taunting, or just simply boastful. Reader discretion is advised.
*Just an opinion, you don't want to be the school that wins just because UP had a fall, you want to win because you were better than UP. Win or lose UP's routine was just in a whole new level. - Youtube user starappler
UP Fight! :D #proudiska - Youtube user alie7lienable
*A bit off topic, but wtf? Nice to see ABS-CBN applying their typical brand of bad journalism in the description of the video. "...upped the shock factor in this year's UAAP Cheerdance Competition by coming out with clean-shaven heads..." Folks, please improve your mediocre reporting skills. "Clean shaven" means NO HAIR AT ALL. - Youtube user djanarak
A simple fall is negligible compared to a number of perfectly executed, fairly difficult stunts!
anyway, mind you, ang sablay sa UP ay katumbas din ng tagumpay. Kung di mo gets, di mo achieve yung level ng UP. #noPunIntended - Youtube user inductme
*Pag nalaglag di na pwede manalo? Nasa rules? Nasa criteria for judging? - Youtube user kriselise25
*From twitter: "Only a true Maroon can understand the performance everyone just witnessed. While everyone else saw a routine, we saw a struggle." - Youtube user bigotsse
*UP proves that simplicity is the ultimate beauty. - Youtube user erinadelaine
1. suporta ng UP community at UP Pep fans
It's the difference between breaking boundaries and making a few mistakes and being perfect in my comfort zone. - Youtube user moira7inori
*SOMETIMES:It's not about winning. It's about sending a message. - Youtube user tekkenngina
*from overheard: Fatima Torres: Freedom at gender equality. Timeless and socially relevant. When teams used elementary themes, UP stayed ahead with ideology. #uaapCDC2012 -- marielditams (@marielitams) - Youtube user joey kim soriano
*This is what I call UNEXPECTED!
Napakalayo noong Madonna routine nila last year, this one is very symbolic in a sense na kailangan busisishin ang bawat detalye ng routine na ito.
I was in goosebumps while watching this.
Kudos UP! :) - Youtube user Lanz16
*alam ko na ba't nanalo ang UP..every year has a new attempt..attempt na patayin kaming audience grabe stunts nyo..una uniform na uniform..pati buhok ganda tuloy tingnan..di nagmamadali sa routine kaya ung flow..parng hihintayin mo tlga..napakaflawless...may thrill
*..bawat bagsak..hiyawan ung tao,..ganda e..simple yet you make it a big trouble to your competitors..it is not how complicated the steps but how you perform it perfectly...ma-2nd courser nga sa UP..lipat ako cebu to manila..
CONGRATS! - Youtube user kaname30yuuki
*In UP...
We are not just made to enjoy freedom; we are made to appreciate it.
We are not just taught the value of being free; we are trained to fight for it.
We are not just moved to reserve it for ourselves; we are empowered to share it.
More than anything else, the UP life is but a struggle... to be free... and to give everybody a fighting chance to be who he/she pretty much deserves to be.
I am from UP. And I am proud.
CONGRATS UP! - Youtube user Kimboy Uy
*"you don't want to be the school that won because UP had a fall. You want to be the school that won because you're better."
Nabasa ko ito sa Twitter. :D - Youtube user inductme
*the "risk factor" of a difficult stunt is what amazes judges. JUDGES BARELY LOOK FOR ERRORS. WHAT THEY'RE LOOKING FOR IS STUNT DIFFICULTY AND CREATIVITY - THESE ARE WHAT MAKE PEOPLE STAND UP AND CHEER! - Youtube user arpeemac
*ewan ko ba sa Director nito.... Pangasar! Sa ganitong competition, close-ups are not necessary... - Youtube user popodrunk14
*Nalaglag lang talo agad. You shouldn't judge a performance over one mistake. We're humans & such error occurs. Yes they had one slip. But compared to the others, they stood out among the rest.
*This one is irrelevant but yes their performance had a fall. Pero, bakit si Beyonce nalaglag at nagpagulonggulong sa stage on one of her concert pero she's still a star. My point is no matter how much you fall, your the winner because you had something unique. UP won because they stood out among the rest. - Youtube user SweetSapphireangel15
*I think I should put this out there: So yes, they changed to the ranking system, but even if it were a point system, for minor errors, 1 point may be deducted, but for MAJOR errors, like the one that occurred, UP TO 5 (meaning 5 or less) may be given.
So let's say a squad committed a major error ON AN EASY STUNT. That would DEFINITELY warrant -5. but if the error was committed on a difficult stunt, it is to the judges discretion that only a small deduction be given. IMO, UP would still win, - Youtube user adaneko

What could be the ranking of pep squad in the 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition? Which cheer squad would be placed in the blanks mentioned above? Place your top 3 UAAP Cheerdance Competition bets at the comment box below!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eight university cheering squads. One champion. Today is THE day, wherein our UAAP cheerleading squads will be showing their best and trying to outshine their competitors in the 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition.

Will the number 831 prevail and give the UP Fighting Maroons a tighter hold of last year's UAAP Cheerdance Competition (CDC) champion title? Will the Tigers of Espanya take down the reigning champion in this year's UAAP Cheerdance Competition? Will there be drastic changes and shifts in the rankings of our pep squads?

The UAAP 75 Cheerdance Competition will be held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, September 22 - 2 PM, and will be broadcast LIVE on Studio 23 and BALLSHD 167. Gates will open at 1 PM. To watch the UAAP 75 Cheerdance Competition online, view 2012 UAAP Cheerdance Competition AT STUDIO 23 LIVE STREAM

Because it's September, sports offices in these universities will be very crowded. Demand for UAAP Season 75 Cheerdance Competition tickets has gone high. Sadly, not everyone who wanted to watch can go. It's definitely hard to buy tickets in sports offices of UST, FEU and UP, now that tickets can only be purchased from SM Ticket outlets and online. A lot are anticipating and very much enthusiastic to watch the battles of the strongest three contenders, aside from all the squads' breath-taking pyramids and fierce routines, skills set and abilities.

During my time, a lot of my friends would usually buy tickets from other universities since there's lesser demand there; in our university, you have to be there as early as you can due to first-come, first-serve basis approach. I don't know if that still applies now. Now, it's centralized.

BEWARE OF SCALPERS WHO INCREASE TICKET PRICES AT LEAST THREE-FOLDS! Prices would sky-rocket hours before the commencement of the UAAP 75 Cheerdance Competition. The normal UAAP Cheerdance tickets are listed here.

September 22's UAAP Cheerdance Competition will definitely be surprising and memorable! The sequence of performing pep squads will be as follows:
  1. Adamson Pep Squad
  2. DLSU Animo Squad
  3. NU Pep Squad
  4. FEU Cheering Squad
  5. UE Pep Squad
  6. UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe
  7. Ateneo Blue Babble Battalion
  8. UP Pep Squad
The criteria for judging are as follows:
  • Dance Technique - 10-20 points
  • Lifts and Stunts  - 10-15 points
  • Pyramids  - 10-15 points
  • Choreography/Synchronization  - 6-10 points
  • Audibility/Clarity of cheers  - 3-5 points
  • Audience Participation - 3-5 points
  • Jumps/Tumbling - 10-15 points
  • Tosses  - 10-15 points
  • Deductions - minor (1 point), major (max 5 points)

See you all at the MOA Arena at 2PM! Support your fellow squads! And  most of all, keep tame! :)
