Previous dragon boat title holders Russia and United States were out-raced by our very own Philippine dragon boat peddlers. They won three (3) golds in the Open category of the 200-meter events of the World Dragon Boat Championships spearheaded by the International Canoe Federation in Milan.
A total of six gold and one silver medals were won by the team against 14 competing countries.
Gold medals were garnered for the categories:
- 10-paddler, all-men, 200-meter
- 20-paddler, 12-men 8-women, 200-meter
- 20-paddler, 6-men 4-women, 200-meter
- 20-paddler, mixed, 500-meter
- 10-paddler, all-men, 2,000-meter
- 10-paddler, all-men, 500-meter
Meanwhile, a silver medal was garnered in the 20-paddler mixed 500-meter race which was won by Russia. The United States, Poland and Germany dragon boat teams also got bronze medals in the various categories.
